Solatum GAG replenisher contains hyaluronic acid (HA). Hyaluronic acid is a type of glycosaminoglycan (GAG) that’s naturally found in the GAG layer. The GAG layer is part of the mucus lining of the bladder that provides a protective barrier and primary defence mechanism against microorganisms and irritants found in the urine. Damage to this GAG layer can destroy the protective function of the lining, meaning urine can irritate the bladder and surrounding muscles and nerves. There’s strong evidence that a deficiency in the GAG layer is linked to many chronic inflammatory bladder diseases, including recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs), chemical or radiation cystitis, and painful bladder syndrome/interstitial cystitis. It’s thought that replenishing the GAG layer can restore it’s protective function to treat and prevent these conditions. Instilling HA into the bladder can help rebuild the GAG layer and restore its protective function of providing a barrier against bacteria and irritants.
